Pre-IVF Investigations
Before starting the IVF process, both partners must undergo essential medical investigations. These tests help evaluate fertility status, detect underlying health issues, and prepare the couple for a safe and successful treatment cycle. All test results should be recent (within 6 months).
Investigations for Male Partner
- Blood Group
- HIV – Human Immunodeficiency Virus (STD panel)
- HbsAg – Hepatitis B surface antigen
- Hepatitis B
- VDRL / RPR / TPHA – Syphilis Screening
- HCV – Hepatitis C
- Semen Analysis
- Medical History
In addition:
- List of past and current medications
- History of allergies
- Significant family history
Investigations for Female Partner
Initial assessment should include previous obstetrical history, surgical procedures, and ART cycle details if applicable.
- AMH – Anti-Mullerian Hormone (ovarian reserve test)
- CBC / Hb – Complete Blood Count and Hemoglobin (detects anemia)
- FBS / PPBS – Blood Sugar Levels
- FBS: Fasting Blood Sugar (requires fasting)
- PPBS: Postprandial Blood Sugar (after a meal)
- HIV – Human Immunodeficiency Virus
- HbsAg – Hepatitis B
- VDRL / RPR / TPHA – Syphilis Screening
- HCV – Hepatitis C
- FSH / LH / Serum Estradiol – Hormone profile on Day 2/3/4 of the cycle
- TSH / T3 / T4 – Thyroid Function Test
- Urine Analysis – Includes test for Chlamydia infection
- Serum Prolactin – Measures prolactin from the pituitary gland
- Vitamin D3 & Vitamin B12 – Nutritional status
- Pelvic Ultrasound for Antral Follicle Count (Cycle Day 2/3/4)
Optional Tests
- Cystic Fibrosis Genetic Testing – Optional (especially in Caucasian populations)
- Karyotyping – Genetic evaluation for chromosomal abnormalities
